WDM Community Education – Volunteer Adventures
Volunteer Adventures offers opportunities for elementary students to serve the community after school. Opportunities include making homeless kits, painting kindness rocks, and making pet blankets for animal shelters. Volunteers will be helping with set-up and clean up, working with students during the activity time, and then walking students to Kids West or to the door for parent pick up. Fall Volunteer Adventures will be offered at Clive, Crestview, Crossroads, and Western Hills.

Iowa Games – Net Fest Basketball
The Net Fest Basketball tournament is a 5 v 5 tournament for 4th-8th grade teams. The annual event began in 1997 and is held each year around Thanksgiving. Volunteers will be responsible for running scoreboards during games as well as keeping score (stats). No experience is necessary.

Single Parent Provision – Break Time
Single Parent Provision is a non-profit organization working to strengthen the lives of single parents and their families in central Iowa. Volunteers are needed September 14, October 26, and November 22 at the Single Parent Provision being held at the Valley Community Center, 4444 Fuller Road in West Des Moines. Duties include helping children from infant to age 14 with planned activities, board games, legos, and play dough.

IRIS (Iowa Resource for International Services) – Peace Day 5K
We are needing 10-20 volunteers for a 5k on Sept. 22. The race will start at 10 am, but we are hoping to have some volunteers at 8am. The volunteers will help with some set-up, runner check-in, handing out medals and some clean-up.

VHS – Girls and Boys Cross Country Meet at VSW
The annual Valley Girls & Boys Tom Karpan Cross Country meet will be held on Tuesday, September 17 at Valley Southwoods. With over 1800 runners visiting from all over the metro many volunteers are needed to help the event run smoothly. Duties include filling water cups and handing out post race drinks and snacks to runners. There is also a need for help cleaning up campsites and course tear down after the event is over.

Additional Information Parking is difficult as the lot fills up fast. PLEASE, leave time to park and walk to the water station. Students should come to volunteer station first to sign in, then report to water station. They are both located near the finish line, by the VSW parking lot.
VHS – Debate Tournament Mid-America Cup
The Valley Debate Tournament (“Mid-America Cup”) is scheduled for the weekend of September 21-22, 2019. This is the largest fundraiser for our Valley Debate team. We are expecting around 500 students, coaches and judges from all over the country at this year’s tournament. We're in need of student volunteers to help with concessions. Arbor Springs Skilled Care -Elderly Visits
Arbor Springs is a skilled care nursing facility specializing in people with Alzheimer's or other types of dementia. The are looking for volunteers to visit with residents for 45 min-1 hour. The visits can include simple conversations with the residents, reading the newspaper/books, ipad games, jigsaw puzzles and craft projects.

WDM Girls Softball – Concession Stand Volunteer
Who doesn’t love a good ol’ fashion concession stand! If you are wanting to earn hours in a fast and fun environment consider volunteering for WDM Girls Softball. Concession stand duties, which includes taking orders from customers, taking payments and making change, restocking coolers, light housekeeping duties such as sweeping floors, doing dishes, taking out trash, etc.

Additional Information The library is looking to sell 10,000-15,000 books. This is an opportunity for students to assist in setting up the book sale; keeping the books organized and replenishing tables with more books during the sale; and assisting the assisting patrons in carrying their purchases back to their vehicles. The money will go to the Friends Foundation to support renovation of the library. We are aware that it is homecoming weekend on Saturday so as not to keep volunteers late.

If you are motivated and willing to donate your time, we have opportunities for you! Be a teammate: Partner up with one or two kids/adults and assist them during a game or practice. Lead as a coach: Coach a competitive league in basketball, soccer, volleyball or baseball – to name a few! Be a teacher: Lead group fitness classes for kids, their families and adult participants.
