Science Exploration

For students entering grades 1-7

Explore a variety of stimulating science subjects! You have the option of signing your child up for one of the morning sessions, one of the afternoon sessions, or both! If your child is staying for the whole day, there will be lunch and recess between the two sessions. *FOOD IS NOT PROVIDED, so please have your child bring a sack lunch. If weather permits, recess will be outside, so please put sunscreen on your child before the program.

Morning – Grades 1-3

Food Science
In this class, playing with your food is totally OK! Come experiment with gummy bears, Skittles, milk, raisins, and much more! Session taught by Natalie Young.

Amazing Human Body
How does your body work? How many bones do you have? Get ready for a week full of activities about the human body! This course will teach the bones of the body, muscles, joints, and how to keep your body healthy. Let’s learn what makes you tick! Session taught by Amy Drake.

Morning – Grades 4-7

It’s All About Energy
Dig deeper into the world of energy – explore how it’s transferred and also converted. Create exciting projects to demonstrate this by using the PLTW Vex Kits. Stretch your thinking with opportunities to ask, explore, model, evaluate, and explain your thinking. Session taught by Courtney Reel.

Science Mystery: Can YOU Solve the Mystery?
Throughout the week, students will set out to solve a number of mysteries. While solving these mysteries, students will be going through many crime-lab procedures including thread tests, powder tests, DNA comparison, chromatography, and fingerprinting. Session taught by Brianna Konz.

Afternoon – Grades 1-3

Deep Sea Adventures
Join us for a deep sea adventure! We’ll go on imaginative, underwater explorations to study the ocean and its
incredible creatures. Each day, we’ll dive into a variety of hands-on activities that will immerse us in the wonders of the seas. Session taught by Amy Drake.

Super Hero Science
Zap! Boom! Zing! Pow! Come and find your inner super hero while learning about the science behind super heroes! We will make “Hulk” slime, write invisible messages, and much more, come join in on the fun! Bam! Session taught by Natalie Young.

Afternoon – Grades 4-7

A Galaxy Far Away
Do you wonder what planets are made of? Have you ever thought about the galaxy and what it embodies? Students will explore planets and the galaxy around us! Students will learn about the solar system and even create their own planet! Session taught by Brianna Konz.

Join us for a week of science fun while we explore, create, conduct, and build using the components of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics)! Learn about a different science theme each day with lots of activities to stretch your mind when you ask, explore, model, evaluate, and explain your thinking. Session taught by Courtney Reel.

Need child care before and/or after the program? Kids West provides a variety of fun activities and breakfast/snack both before and after the sessions. Register for the full week or just a few times.
