Safety Town

For students entering kindergarten this fall

Safety Town is an educational program introducing safety awareness and preventative practices to young children. Some of the topics covered include safety around strangers, fire, water, buses, traffic, and poison. Children will have an opportunity to learn through experiences in the Safety Town village, a field trip to the West Des Moines Police and Fire departments, and various classroom activities.

Location Fairmeadows Elementary, 807 23rd Street, West Des Moines

Cost $50 registration fee that includes a T-shirt. Scholarships are available—please call 633-5001 for details.


Registration begins April 17 at 8 a.m. Registrations will be taken on a first come, first served basis.

There are three ways to register:

  1. Register Online
  2. By phone Call 515-633-5001 and pay by credit card.
  3. In Person Come to the WDMCS Community Education office at the Learning Resource Center, 3550 Mills Civic Parkway, West Des Moines.

Please Note: If your child attends a child care center that provides transportation to Safety Town, please speak to your provider, as all child care centers must register as a group for Sessions 2, 4, or 6. Child care registrations must be received by April 10.
